Death & Co

Washington D.C. is the fourth location for the Death & Co brand that began in New York City and has expanded to Los Angeles and Denver.  We served as the architect of record for the new venue which transformed the existing second story destination. GriD partnered with AAmp Studio, who was the designer for the project, to take it from the conceptual phases through construction. The scope of work included new restrooms, demolition of the existing second floor space, refurbishment of the existing exterior patio area, and the implementation of the new main lounge area.

A continuous white marble bar establishes the heart of the dining experience, balancing openness and intimacy through a composition of booth seating, layered textures, and warm materials. On the patio, a vibrant orange banquette and overhead planting create a lush, garden-like atmosphere, while integrated ADA seating promotes accessibility and inclusivity throughout the 12-seat bar experience.

The design blends signature elements of Death & Co’s hospitality experience with features that celebrate the history of the original Columbia Room. The iconic mural was thoughtfully preserved, while a large interior window and outdoor patio strengthen visual and social connections to the surrounding neighborhood, creating a layered experience rooted in both place and legacy.
