Sand Run

Located due east of Blackwater Falls in the Canaan Valley state forest, an existing log and mortar cabin sits perched on a forested hillside. The project scope includes a renovation to the existing cabin and a 750 sq. foot addition. The new addition’s form is inspired by the existing log cabin’s mass - taking the existing gable of the cabin and generating an almost identical footprint on the opposing side of the residence.

The new form connects to the old cabin via an elevated bridge, acting as a hyphen between the masses and creating a new cohesive mass with two street facing gable ends. Charred wood is used to clad the new addition.
